A little about where we will be and when during the first week of the walk:

We fly out of Brisbane on Tuesday 21st June having had a few days to get ourselves prepared. Fly straight into Dublin where we will stay for a few days to get ourselves over jetlag and have a look around this lovely, vibrant city. I have been there several times and always enjoyed my stay.
We will make our way up to Leitrim on Friday 24th and commence the walk on the Friday morning.
Our fist stop is in Highwood area, then to Ballinafad, Edmonstown Cross and Frenchpark where we have our first stopover for two nights. We will have walked about 85klms give or take a few kilometres and we both feel this will be the hardest week of the walk - blisters, sore aching limbs and sheer exhaustion. Our accommodation is booked at local B & Bs so hopefully we will get some TLC as I feel it will be needed.

The walking and training is well under way with Sue and I training 1000 klms apart but we are in touch daily. The flights are booked and nearly all the accommodation is booked, only 19 weeks until we go.
My walking has been bumped up a notch and last week I managed 43klms outside work hours so with heat unbearable some days I am happy with the progress. It will get cooler making walking enjoyable again.
Keep watching this space!!!!

This walk idea started in 2014 when I stayed in Castletownbeare and met the O'Sullivan chieftain. Over a few days he suggested I walk the walk and I laughed at him and gave the usual excuses - I am not completely crazy, too old, too far and I am a female.
What I didn't realise was he had planted the seed in my head which would not go away.
On my return to work some of the staff suggested I walk and again I gave the same excuses but at the back of my mind the idea was working overtime until it would not go away and I knew I had to make a decision. I then asked Sue if she was interested and she did not hesitate with her answer.
Once the decision was made I knew there had to be a reason to walk such a long distance. Sue and I had lost two brothers and two brother in laws to Cancer so the reason was there.
With the help of Cancer Queensland I set up a donation page  with the promise to raise $5000 before we leave Australia. We  are well on the way to reaching this amount.
